Frank McAvennie reckons it would be 'criminal' and the Rangers board should be held 'accountable' if Ryan Kent leaves for nothing.
The Light Blues attacker is into the final 12 months of his current contract at Ibrox and is yet to strike a deal over fresh terms with Giovanni van Bronckhorst's men - a similar situation to team-mate and fellow fans' favourite Alfredo Morelos.
Steven Gerrard initially brought him to the club on a season-long loan from Liverpool before shelling out £7million to make the move permanent. Now at Aston Villa, the Anfield legend has been linked with a move for his former star. Kent, who grabbed his first goal of the season in the win over Hearts, can speak to clubs about a pre-contract move come January if he doesn't agree terms before that point.

McAvennie casted doubt over whether his consistency would land him a move to one of England's top sides - although admits he is good enough to ply his trade south.
But admits should that transfer come around on a free, it would be criminal from the Ibrox hierarchy.
Speaking to Football Insider, the Celtic hero said: “I don’t know if he’ll get a move to the Premier League,.
“Do I think he’s good enough? Yes. But he’s not consistent enough. They’ll want big money for him.
“He might get one of the teams in the bottom half of the league coming in for him. Look, he won’t get any offers from the teams up the top because he doesn’t do it enough. He always has a good game in Europe, and that’ll interest people. But as I say stats are everything nowadays. They’ll look at his stats and see he doesn’t always do it.
“Could he play in the Premier League? Of course he could but will anyone come in for him? I don’t know. Somebody could take a chance.
“It would be a criminal shame and the board should be held accountable if they let him go for nothing."
Speaking previously over talks surrounding new deals for Kent and Morelos, Stewart Robertson told the Rangers Review: “With Alfredo and Ryan, those discussions are happening. The guys have got until the end of May in their existing contracts.
"We will try to engage with players when we want them to extend. Some will want to take time because it's a big decision for them."
