Ryan Gosling Reluctantly Performs Hit Song At Oscars

Don Murray received an Oscar nomination for his performance in 'Bus Stop'

During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, actor Ryan Gosling revealed his initial reluctance to perform the nominated song 'I'm Just Ken' at the Oscars. Gosling admitted that his first response to the request was a firm 'no,' citing concerns about the potential pitfalls of such a performance. However, despite his reservations, Gosling ultimately took the stage in a striking pink bedazzled suit and cowboy hat, accompanied by a group of 62 Kens, including his co-stars from the Barbie movie.

Following his performance, which garnered positive reviews, Gosling humorously remarked on the potential impact of having The Roots as his backing band. The actor had previously shared that his daughters' lack of interest in the Ken doll had sparked his initial interest in the role. Gosling joked about his daughters' reaction to his performance, quipping that they recognized his character's antics as 'Dad's Kenning again.'

Gosling emphasized that his Ken role and performance were a collaborative effort, with his daughters visiting the set during the filming of the song. Despite their young age, Gosling shared that his daughters were well-versed in the choreography and songs, showcasing their enthusiasm for the project.

Looking ahead, Gosling is set to host Saturday Night Live for the third time, with a previous sketch catching the attention of Barbie director Greta Gerwig. Reflecting on the sketch that piqued Gerwig's interest, Gosling humorously recalled the dialogue and its unexpected connection to his role as Ken in the Barbie movie.
