Ryan Giggs' Worsley restaurant responds after some diners left negative reviews on TripAdvisor

Earlier this week, Ryan Giggs' restaurant in Worsley received some less than desirable reviews from some customers on TripAdvisor. Despite George's Dining Room & Bar having four stars on the platform, an AA rosette and ranking of rated 8/24 for restaurants in the area, some customers complained about "mediocre" food and "slow" service.

Following the comments, George's has promised to take the comments on board, but has also defended itself. In the same breath, many reviews posted to TripAdvisor have praised the venue for its "delicious" food and "lovely" serving staff.

Giggs opened George’s Dining Room and Bar with school friends, solicitor Kelvin Gregory and restaurateur Bernie Taylor back in 2014. The plush, 130-cover restaurant is located on the site of Italian restaurant Milan - which the trio previously owned.

One diner, who said they go to the former Manchester United star’s George’s Dining Room & Bar “quite frequently”, claimed to have had the “blandest” fillet steak they’ve ever eaten, while the chips served alongside were said to be “irredeemably overcooked". They added that the prices were the "worst part", and “just bonkers for the quality of the experience”.

Another customer said that their experience of the restaurant was, “not the best”, critiquing “mediocre” mains and slow service despite the restaurant not being busy. A third, who went for afternoon tea said they were disappointed with the 4 small sandwiches, 4 desserts and single scone, saying it was “definitely not worth” the £20 per head they paid.

Prices at the upscale eatery range from £29 for an 8oz fillet steak and chips to £16 for cider battered sustainable fish with thick cut Sagitta Chips, homemade tartare sauce and mushy peas. Another customer, who posted to the review site back in May lamented the restaurant’s cancellation policy: “Was supposed to visit my family on the 27th of may 2022, but for health reasons can no longer attend, my brother booked a table for four on this day and had to give credit card details to confirm, but on cancelling was told he would be charged £5 per person for cancellation”.

Responding to the negative comments, a spokesperson for George’s Dining Room & Bar said: “The team at George’s take all feedback on board, and the overwhelming majority of reviews and feedback for the restaurant are positive. The restaurant prides itself on that, but is always willing to take on board the comments.

“The restaurant serves 1500 covers a week and has recently retained its AA rosette, which I think speaks volumes about the quality of service and food.”

However, not all the reviews for George’s have been as negative, with many praising the staff and quality of food. A review from earlier this week said: “the food was delicious and would highly recommend,” and described the staff as “lovely”. Another from May commended George’s roast, calling it “the best roast beef” they could remember having. The customer also praised the “great vibe” and “lovely and helpful” service.

There have even been several special mentions for one of the servers Jack. "Amazing service from jack! Thoroughly enjoyed the food, provided us a table for 11 people with minimal notice. Thank you so much we’ll be back!"

Another said: "I visited George's as a little treat with my mum and grandma and I'm so glad we did! I haven't been for a while but it's been flawless in the past so I was thrilled that the service was still as brilliant as I remember with very friendly staff!

"We had the hake, beef and lamb for mains, which we all agreed were delicious, and shared a side of chips. We all opted for the sticky toffee pudding for dessert which was almost too good to be true!"

Last June, the Salford restaurant hit out at customers who failed to show up for their bookings, after they had more than 50 ‘no shows’ in one week. In a post to social media, they blasted people who no show as ‘selfish and irresponsible.”
