Ryan Garcia has stuck to his word and paid out $20,000 to Errol Spence Jr after Gervonta Davis knocked out Rolly Romero on Saturday night.
Garcia was in attendance over the weekend at the Barclays Center for Davis' long-awaited clash with Romero, which the Baltimore native won by sixth round knockout. Davis was the favourite heading into both this weekend's fight and their originally planned bout last year, but Garcia backed Romero to pull off the upset.
Prior to the bout, Spence went to check just how sure Garcia was about the result, and offered to bet $20,000 on Davis winning the contest. Davis was a massive 1/10 favourite with bookies, so Spence was getting himself a monster price for an evens bet with Garcia.
But he confirmed on Twitter today that the youngster had paid out his winnings after Davis pulled off a brutal win in the sixth. The scorecards had been tight heading into the halfway point, before Romero was dropped with a vicious left hand that saw the contest stopped.
"Ryan paid me," Spence said in a tweet to his 280,600+ followers, tagging Garcia in the post. He responded: "Well time to find a way to get that back and some haha. Respect."
Garcia is set to return to the ring next month when he faces Javier Fortuna, a fight which sees him return to regular activity for the first time in three years. It was 2019 when Garcia last fought more than once in a calendar year, and when he faces Fortuna he will have competed twice in four months.
It remains to be seen when Spence will be back in action after he brutalised Yordenis Ugas to become the unified welterweight world champion in April. He has a number of options available, but has yet to confirm his next move.
As for Davis, he will likely have a keen eye on this weekend's undisputed lightweight clash between Devin Haney and George Kambosos Jr in Melbourne. He's the WBA regular champion, which is trumped by Kambosos' super title, and he'll likely want a shot at the undisputed belt once their two-fight deal is over.

Davis viciously knocked out Romero on Saturday night, which apparently spelled the end for his relationship with Mayweather Promotions. But he appeared pally with Mayweather boss Leonard Ellerbe after the event, and he seemed to indicate that he is staying with his promoters.
“I was just trying to figure him out, catch his range and see how hard he hit," Davis said after the fight. “I knew he was going to run into something because his focus was to throw everything hard.
“He tried to throw his brick hand I think and I just moved out the way and caught him running in. I knew that I could outthink him easily. I knew I was going to outbox him.
"I thought I was going to not knock him out but wind up stopping him in the late rounds. But he ran into the shot. He ran into the shot.”
