Despite losing to Michigan the last couple of seasons, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day has had quite the first few years as the head coach on the banks of the Olentangy. He has two Big Ten titles and three College Football Playoff appearances in the last four seasons.
His Buckeye team is dripping with talent once again with a shot at contending for big things just as it has his first four seasons. So much so that Patrick Conn over at College Sports Wire has identified Day as one of 12 who will affect the playoff race in 2023.
Conn believes Day needs to beat Michigan and has it circled as one to watch on the calendar. He has to have his team ready to execute better than the last two shots at the Maize and Blue.
“After winning his first attempt in ‘The Game’ rivalry against Michigan, Ryan Day has failed to win against the Wolverines in the last two seasons,” wrote Conn. “The Buckeye faithful are ready to regain the upper hand in one of the greatest rivalries in college football.
“The struggles haven’t been from a lack of talent but from a lack of execution. But is there a more motivating factor than revenge? With the best group of wide receivers in the country, Day just needs his quarterback to rise to the occasion. Make sure you have this late-November game circled on your calendar.”
We’ve said all along that Ohio State was the more talented team the last couple of years, but that doesn’t always mean it was the better team. The Wolverines came in hungrier and executed better than what we saw from the OSU sideline and that was the difference.
To look at the other 11 who will affect the race for a national title trophy, head over to College Sports Wire and see if you agree.
