RWE opens Grimsby recruitment drive with 20+ offshore wind turbine technicians sought

More than 20 offshore wind turbine technicians are being sought by RWE as it gears up to support its latest North Sea addition.

The 1.4GW Sofia project is currently being built out off the North Yorkshire coast, and will be served from Grimsby.

Last month the company revealed the state-of-the-art green fuelled vessel they will work from, with the charter confirmed as it reaffirmed its commitment to the port, where it is expanding its operations and maintenance base. Now under construction, RWE’s Grimsby Hub is an extension of the initial Triton Knoll facility and will be completed by the end of the year.

Guy Middleton, RWE’s general manager for the Royal Dock base, said: “A skilled workforce is at the heart of a successful growing green business, and we are excited about the launch of our recruitment process. The Grimsby Hub will be essential to successfully manage and maintain our growing fleet of offshore wind farms in the UK; our activities in the region will also bring skilled roles and provide opportunities for the regional supply chain.”

The 20-plus offshore wind turbine technicians represent the first recruitment drive for an envisaged 70 new roles, doubling the RWE headcount to 140 in Grimsby.

It launches now to ensure successful candidates will have time to be trained and to gain the necessary experience before being fully deployed on Sofia, in readiness for first electricity generation in 2025. They will work on a two week shift pattern, staying out in the field that covers some 593 sq km, almost 200 km off the coast.

The new jobs emerge just days after Offshore Wind Connections, the Humber’s flagship conference and exhibition, which heard how the wider industry will create a further 10,000 jobs in the region by the decade’s end.

Applications for the new roles are open until Friday, May 26.
