A Rwandan man residing in Ohio has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Boston for his alleged role in the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. Eric Nshimiye is accused of committing heinous acts during the genocide, including using a machete to kill individuals and participating in the rape of women.
Nshimiye is facing charges of falsifying information, obstruction of justice, and perjury. It is alleged that he lied about his actions during the genocide in order to enter the United States as a refugee in 1995 and later obtain citizenship.
Court documents reveal disturbing details of Nshimiye's alleged crimes, including striking victims with a nail-studded club before brutally killing them with a machete. He is also accused of participating in the rape of Tutsi women during the genocide.
The indictment also includes charges related to Nshimiye's testimony in a 2019 trial where he allegedly provided false information about his involvement in the genocide and attempted to obstruct justice.
Authorities have identified witnesses in Rwanda who have provided information about the locations of the killings and the weapons used by Nshimiye. The accused fled to Kenya before coming to the United States in 1995, where he has been living and working in Ohio since then.
Nshimiye is currently in custody in Ohio pending a detention hearing. The case has garnered significant attention due to the severity of the allegations and the impact of the Rwandan genocide, which resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people.
