Ruud van Nistelrooy has confirmed his interest in working with incoming Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim after kicking off his spell as interim head coach with a 5-2 victory over Leicester City in the Carabao Cup.
Club legend Van Nistelrooy has stepped into the hot seat following the sacking of Erik ten Hag on Monday, with the expectation that Sporting CP boss Amorim will be named as United’s new permanent manager in the coming days.
The Sporting head coach is likely to bring several of his own backroom staff to United, and Van Nistelrooy - who was assistant to Ten Hag - hopes to help “in any capacity”.
Asked on Sky Sports if he was open to staying, Van Nistelrooy replied: “Of course. I came here as an assistant to help the club. Now in this role, I’m helping as long as needed. In the future in any capacity, I’m here to help the club further to build towards the future that’s what I'm here for.”

The 48-year-old is likely to still be in charge when Chelsea visit Old Trafford on Sunday in the Premier League amid reports Sporting want to keep hold of Amorim until the international break in November.
