Ruud van Nistelrooy felt Rangers rage of PSV fans as former Ibrox keeper reveals boss pelted with a pint

PSV Eindhoven fans were so enraged at their Champions League loss to Rangers, they lobbed a pint of beer at manager Ruud van Nistelrooy's head, according to former Ibrox keeper Ronald Waterreus. Rangers had to run the gauntlet of hate at the Philips Stadion with their team bus attacked before the game and their hotel targeted during the night before the second leg.

And former Rangers shot-stopper Waterreus, who was at the game doing TV analysis, revealed Dutch legend van Nistelrooy didn't escape their wrath. He said: "When Rangers scored, Ruud van Nistelrooy was directly struck on his head by a pint of beer in a plastic cup thrown at him.

"People who do this are just idiots. They should not be in the stadium and should not call themselves a supporter of any club, anywhere. Some people condone this behaviour as passion. It's not, it's a disgrace. The pint of beer hit him on the head and it dropped to the ground. He just kicked it away and did nothing. Ruud looked stunned.

"These are the type of people who attacked the Rangers team bus before the game. Don't they realise that if they can't get into the stadium, there will be no game? The only way to deal with these idiots is to suspend them for life."

Giovanni van Bronckhorst described the behaviour of the PSV fans before kick off as the worst he'd witnessed in football as the Gers team bus was swamped by home supporters before kick off.
