Manchester United have recently made an exciting announcement regarding the appointment of former club legend Ruud van Nistelrooy as one of Erik ten Hag's assistant coaches. This move comes as part of a strategic effort to strengthen the backroom staff, following Ten Hag's contract extension until 2026. Alongside Van Nistelrooy, Rene Hake has also joined the first-team setup in an assistant role.
Sources close to the situation have revealed that work-permit delays temporarily held up the deals for both coaches. Van Nistelrooy, aged 48, boasts an impressive track record, having scored 95 goals in 150 Premier League appearances for Manchester United from 2001 to 2006. Notably, he remains the club's most prolific scorer in European competition.
Following his playing career, Van Nistelrooy transitioned into coaching and managed PSV Eindhoven during the 2022-23 Eredivisie season. His tenure saw PSV secure a commendable second-place finish in the league and clinch victory in the Dutch Cup. However, he resigned from his position just before the final day of the season.
Reports from June indicated that Burnley were engaged in discussions with Van Nistelrooy regarding their vacant managerial role. This potential move would have seen him step in as a replacement for Vincent Kompany, who departed to join Bayern Munich in a surprising turn of events.
