Ruturaj Gaikwad may be fit for selection in third Test vs England

MUMBAI: Opener Ruturaj Gaikwad, who suffered a ring-finger fracture in the second ODI during India’s tour of South Africa recently, should be available for selection from the third India-England Test, which will be played in Rajkot from Feb 15-19.

“Ruturaj is recovering at the National Cricket Academy, and should be fit after a week or 10 days. He will subsequently be available for Maharashtra in the Ranji Trophy. He is likely to be available for selection after the second Test of the series,” a source told TOI.

The 26-year-old scored a century against Australia in T20I in November last year but is yet to make his Test debut.

Bengal’s Abhimanyu Easwaran is set to get a lifeline in India’s squad against England as a back-up opener, with Rohit Sharma and Yashavi Jaiswal being the frontline openers.

Eashwaran is in the India ‘A’ squad for a 2-day warm-up fixture & first multi-day game against England Lions.

While they announced the squad for the threematch T20Is against Afghanistan, India are yet to name their team for the Tests against England.
