A ruthless Kinahan cartel hitman was last night being quizzed over the murder of Gerry “The Monk” Hutch’s brother after cops arrested him in prison.
The thug, 42, was being held at a garda station in north Dublin as specialist detectives grilled him over the killing of Eddie Hutch. Taximan Eddie, 58, was blasted to death outside his home on Popular Row in Dublin’s north inner city on February 8, 2016.
Cops believe the shocking murder was in retaliation for the Regency Hotel attack, orchestrated by the Hutch gang, three days beforehand. On that occasion gang boss Daniel Kinahan escaped without injury but his senior associate David Byrne died after being plugged six times.

The man in custody was arrested in prison after detectives from Mountjoy Garda Station secured a Section 42 warrant in court. He can be held for 24 hours.
A garda spokesman said: “Gardai have arrested a man in his 40s in connection with a fatal shooting which occurred on Popular Row in Dublin 3 on 8th, February 2016. The man is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in North Dublin.”
Following Eddie’s murder, the arrested gangster was quickly identified as the chief suspect in the case. He was previously questioned in 2016 but was released without charge. The hood later lived abroad for some time before returning to Ireland.
He has since been convicted over serious offences including drugs and is currently serving a long sentence. Sources say he is one of Ireland’s most dangerous criminals and that he carried out a number of shootings on gang leader Kinahan’s orders.
Eddie’s brother The Monk is currently before the Special Criminal Court charged with the murder of Byrne at the Regency Hotel. The court is set to deliver its judgement in the trial later this month.
