Former Celtic star Charlie Nicholas has warned Rangers they won't win consecutive titles IF they stick with Allan McGregor as the club's No.1
The 40-year-old wasn't at his best in the 2-2 draw with Motherwell, as supporters and pundits alike conceded the veteran could have done more for both Steelmen strikes in the second half.
That hiccup keeps Rangers three points behind Celtic after the Hoops themselves dropped points against Hibs.
McGregor hasn't been able to recapture the magic of last season, however, he has still proven capable of top level saves in big matches.
But Nicholas is certain time is up for the club icon and he believes Steven Gerrard should also get some flak over the stopper's current performance levels.
Speaking to the Express, he said: " Rangers can kiss goodbye to their title crown if they don't drop Allan McGregor.
"The 40-year-old keeper is looking really vulnerable and even some of Gers' own fans have started to question his position in the starting line-up.
"Giovanni van Bronkhorst now has a big call to make and it could prove fatal to their silverware aspirations if he doesn't make the right one.
"The Ibrox manager should give the gloves to Jon McLaughlin or even Robby McCrorie.
"The big moments look to have passed McGregor by this season.
"If Rangers don't win the title then the goalkeeping issue will come under scrutiny along with their defence.
"I know they don't score as many goals when Alfredo Morelos isn't in the team but they have been losing a lot of soft goals at the other end, as we saw in last weekend's match with Motherwell, who fought back from 2-0 down at half-time to draw 2-2 at Ibrox.
"A lot of mistakes have been coming from their goalkeeper.
"With the Kaiyne Woolery goal for Well's equaliser, how often did you used to see McGregor get beat at his near post when he was at the top of his game? The veteran is letting in goals that he wouldn't have conceded in his prime.
"The end of the road comes for all players and McGregor should have hung up his gloves at the end of last season. He made the wrong call.
"Steven Gerrard failed to address the situation in the summer and his successor Van Bronckhorst has had to roll with it.
"Connor Goldson and Borna Barisic have looked vulnerable at the back, but McGregor even more so. should hung up gloves
"The saves we are used to seeing him make are the top reaction saves.
"People compare McGregor to Andy Goram and they were quite similar. Goram never really came for crosses either. It was all about making outstanding reaction saves with an arm, a leg or any other part of the body.
"Reo Hatate's strikes in the Old Firm derby last month were fabulous, but a year or so ago McGregor would have saved or at least got a hand to them.
"It has been a season too far and he should have bowed out when he was on top."
