Rutherglen Glencairn boss Willie Harvey says their Player of the Year awards on Saturday night provided a chance for players to have fun after a challenging season.
And he hinted that it’s the last time they will all be together.
Glencairn were relegated from the West of Scotland Premier Division in 15th place on 20 points, with seven clubs dropping out.
Harvey hopes to have new contracts thrashed out by next Wednesday, and new players to have been approached, as they reshape their squad for next season’s First Division campaign.
But Saturday night presented a chance for the squad to relax and socialise.
Jack McIlveen won management player of the year and top goalscorer; players’ player of the year went to Mick O’Byrne while Scott Schoneville picked up website player of the year and committee player of the year.
A testimonial year award went to Sean McGuire, and long service recognition awards were given to Alex Forbes and Eddie Smith.
Harvey said: “It went very well, it was a great night.
“It was good to get a wee bit of fun and enjoyment.
“It was good for our guys to get together as well, because for some of them it will be the last time they will be together.
“There will be players that we want to stay who probably won’t, and there might be players who want to stay that we don’t want to.
“So everyone could go, enjoy their night, relax,, and we’ll deal with everything after it.”
Awards were also handed out to the club’s under-21s, who have enjoyed a successful season, with Connor Neilson, Anthony Maguire and Ross Smith stepping up to the first team squad.
Maguire won player of the year and players’ player of the year, with Smith taking top goalscorer.
Liam Coyle won young player of the year, George McKendrick scooped coaching recognition award, and retirement recognition award went to Robert Fraser.
Harvey said: “It was a chance for us to celebrate the success of the under-21s.
“It was good to point out that some of them have moved up this year – which doesn’t happen every season.
“Three are definitely signing, and two will be coming along to pre-season training, just to see how they interact with everybody.”
