Rutherglen Glencairn boss Joe Pryce says he would be happy to start the West of Scotland First Division season with the squad he has, but still wants to add more.
The Hamish B. Allan Stadium club have signed former Arthurlie and Drumchapel United goalkeeper James Scott and promoted six from their under-21s.
They have three stars to announce as soon as their previous contracts expire, while Pryce snapped up former St Roch’s striker Paul Brennan on Monday night.
Brennan, 27, has plenty of experience in the West of Scotland League with Ashfield, Bellshill Athletic, Rossvale and Glasgow Perthshire, and for a brief spell was with Glencairn’s under-21s.
Pryce is hopeful of getting at least one more new star over the line, but is otherwise content with his squad.
He said: “I’m delighted to have big Paul. We were a wee bit short of striker options last season as we only had two, and this gives us four.
“Paul fits the profile of the striker we were wanting, he’s a player we know because he’s been with our 21s, and he fills that gap perfectly.
“I’m still hopeful of getting somebody else in today. We’ll certainly know the decision by the end of the day.”
He added: “If you were to say to me right now ‘would you be happy going into the season with the group you’ve got’, the answer would be 100 per cent.
“If another one pops up then you don’t say ‘no’, but I’m happy with the group we have at the moment.
“We’re doing okay. There is always space there for somebody else and if someone pops up that will add to our quality then you don’t say ‘no’.
“The under-21s came in, they’re looking good and have settled in well – as you would expect, because they’re already Glencairn players.
“The new players who have been in training with us have settled in fine.
“We held our fourth session on Monday and they looked really good.”
Glencairn kick off their pre-season friendly campaign at Clydebank on Tuesday, followed by Vale of Clyde at Greenfield Football Centre on Saturday, July 15.
They are then at Shettleston on July 19, and wrap it up at home to St Anthony’s on Saturday, July 22.
Pryce said: “In pre-season games it’s all about getting fit and getting the new players used to their team-mates and a style of play – and hopefully coming through the four games without any injuries, so you can start the proper season fit and ready to go.”
