A Rutherglen bicycle repair shop is set to hold one of 24 cycling celebration events across Scotland this May in the build-up to a huge cycling event.
Bike Town, part of Healthy 'n' Happy Community Development Trust, will be holding the CamGlen Cycling Festival events on May 20 at Overtoun Park and May 21 at Cambuslang Park in preparation for the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships in August.
Other activities on the day include face painting, balloon modelling, glitter tattoos, music from CamGlen Radio and lots more.
Jim Ewing, senior team leader for Bike Town, said: “We’d love everyone to come along and join our cycling celebrations, for lots of family festival fun. There will be plenty of super cycling activities, from cycle lessons to time trials and races, Dr Bike, circus cycling, a scavenger hunt and Bling Your Bike. We’ll also be building a ‘Wheel Dome Den’ and kids can get involved in decorating it.”
The event will be held thanks to EventScotland, Cycling Scotland and the Community Cycling Fund.
Robbie Clyde, head of EventScotland, said: “EventScotland is delighted to be supporting the CamGlen Cycling Festivals through the Community Cycling Fund, which is enabling opportunities for more people to enjoy the benefits of cycling through a range of events and activity, as we move closer to the inaugural 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships.”
Christopher Johnson, head of education and training, Cycling Scotland, added: “Cycling Scotland is happy to partner with EventScotland to support the CamGlen Cycling Festivals through the Community Cycling Fund. Inclusive cycling events play an important role in encouraging more people to cycle more often in communities across Scotland, and help to highlight local cycling infrastructure and opportunities.”
