Ruth Jones apologises live on BBC Radio 2 after expletive blunder ahead of Gavin And Stacey finale

Ruth Jones apologised live on BBC Radio 2 after making an on-air blunder while co-hosting the show with James Corden on Monday.

The creators of Gavin and Stacey took over the breakfast show, joined by several cast members ahead of the sitcom’s final episode.

While fans hailed the takeover as "iconic" and urged the cast to host the show permanently, Jones, who plays Nessa Jenkins, accidentally turned the airwaves blue when she accidentally swore while reciting a line from the beloved series.

Speaking to Alison Steadman, who plays Pam on the sitcom, the 58-year-old said: “Alison, I remember you were sitting on the beach with the lovely Margaret John and you were both there in your sun hats.

“It was so nice and she had that line when Mick takes his top off and she went, ‘Oh you're a lucky b***h Pam!’ Am I allowed to say ‘b***h’ on a radio show? Probably not. Sorry, I apologise!”

Giggling, Corden said: “I don't think you are. I think we've just been told you're officially not allowed to say that” to which Jones apologised again about her on-air blunder: “I apologise!”

Following the broadcast, Gavin and Stacey fans expressed their wish for the stars to host the show "every day".

During the show, the sitcom creators revealed behind-the-scenes secrets about the upcoming finale, shared their favourite memories from the series, and discussed all things festive.

Fans clearly enjoyed hearing the cast on the radio, as they quickly took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share their excitement about hearing the actors on air in the morning.

One listener commented: “Loving the cast of Gavin and Stacey on @BBCRadio2 this morning. Heading home to the valleys later today, and it’s making me all the more giddy. Tidy!!”

“#Gavinandstacey taking over the #BBCRadio2 breakfast show is ICONIC! I love it,” another wrote.

A third added: “The crew of #Gavinandstacey should be on every breakfast show……. Hilarious, and brilliant.”

The pair were joined by Joanna Page, Mat Horne, Rob Brydon, Alison Steadman, Larry Lamb, and Rob Wilfort for the three-hour special.

The highly anticipated 'last ever' episode will air as a 90-minute special on Christmas Day this year, following fans' requests to bring the story to a close.
