The Rutgers men gave top-seeded Purdue all it could handle in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament on Friday.
At one point, the Scarlet Knights even held a 12-point lead over the No. 5 team in the country. In the end though, the game ended exactly how most suspected it would, with Purdue advancing.
Rutgers did give its bettors a reason to stick around to the very end, with the gave teetering over and under the 6.5-point spread for several minutes. And after a free throw put Purdue ahead by seven with nine second left, Rutgers hustled back down the other end to get a shot up and notch the cover on a put-back with exactly one second left.

Fans at the United Center went wild for the seemingly meaningless bucket. It didn’t give Rutgers a win, but it did make sure the team’s bettors came away with something.
