Russian star Daniil Medvedev suffers meltdown during humiliating Monte Carlo defeat

  • Daniil Medvedev suffered a humiliating 6-0 6-0 defeat by Matteo Berrettini at the Monte Carlo Masters on Wednesday, marking the heaviest loss of his career.
  • The world No 10 failed to win a single game in his first clay-court match of the season, despite reaching the Indian Wells final and winning two hard-court titles recently.
  • Medvedev had an on-court meltdown after losing his serve for the fourth consecutive time in the second set, destroying his racket by throwing it and slamming it into the clay.
  • The Russian made 27 unforced errors to just three winners and won only 17 of 67 points throughout the match.
  • Berrettini, who received a wildcard for the tournament, described his performance as one of the best of his life, having also advanced from his first-round match without dropping a game.
