A suspected plague scare has gripped parts of Siberia, with reports of hospital quarantines and nearly 200 people under medical monitoring. The incident reportedly began when a 28-year-old technician broke a test tube containing the pneumonic plague pathogen, later developed severe pneumonia, and died within days.

Russian authorities have not confirmed that she had plague or that an outbreak occurred, but the incident has prompted sweeping anti-epidemic measures.
