Federal officials have identified 'Russian influence actors' as the culprits behind a recent video that falsely depicted individuals purportedly from Haiti engaging in illegal voting across multiple counties in Georgia. This revelation comes from a joint statement issued by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.
According to the statement, the intelligence community's assessment is based on available information and the past activities of Russian influence actors, who have a history of disseminating disinformation through videos and other means. The Georgia Secretary of State has already debunked the claims made in the video as false.
Furthermore, the officials revealed that Russian influence actors were also responsible for fabricating a video that falsely accused an individual associated with the Democratic presidential ticket of accepting a bribe from a U.S. entertainer.
The statement highlighted that these actions are part of a broader effort by Moscow to sow doubt about the integrity of the U.S. election and exacerbate divisions among Americans. The intelligence community anticipates that Russia will continue to produce and distribute additional media content aimed at undermining trust in the election's integrity and fostering discord among the American populace in the lead-up to the election and beyond.
