Drone footage shows moment Russian ship is attacked
At least eight people have died after a Russian missile struck the eastern Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk, with a residential building among those to be damaged.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said the “ordinary residential building” had been the target on Tuesday in the attack and that many others have been injured.
A hotel used by journalists was also damaged in the strike and Ukraine said that rescue efforts are ongoing. A regional governor added that the two missiles hit the city within 40 minutes.
Pokrovsk is around 43 miles north-west of Donetsk, held by Russia, and 30 miles from the frontline of the fighting.
The news comes after the Ukrainian security service said a Russian informant who was “preparing a Russian airstrike” to attempt to assassinate Mr Zelensky has been detained.
The alleged informant “on the eve of the recent trip of the president of Ukraine to Mykolaiv region, was gathering intelligence about the planned visit”, the service said, referring to a trip Mr Zelensky made to the region in July.
