Russia has announced a significant development in the ongoing peace talks with Ukraine, stating that the discussions will be put on hold for an extended period. This decision comes in response to a surprise incursion by Ukraine into Russia's Kursk region last week.
The Russian Foreign Ministry's special envoy, Rodion Miroshnik, expressed that Ukraine's actions in the Kursk area, which were deemed as 'terrorist,' have effectively halted the progress of the peace talks. Miroshnik suggested that Ukraine's incursion was a deliberate move aimed at disrupting the negotiations.
Efforts to achieve peace between the two nations have faced numerous challenges in the past. Russia has insisted that Ukraine relinquish control of four eastern regions, a demand that Kyiv has adamantly rejected.
The motive behind Ukraine's attack on the Kursk region remains unclear. However, there is speculation that the incursion may have been intended to strengthen Ukraine's position in potential future negotiations.
