Russia Launches Aerial Attacks On Ukraine's Energy Sector

Russia has launched aerial attacks on Ukraine's energy sector 'on a massive scale,' causing explosions and damage across the country. The intensified bombardments have left Ukraine in a precarious position as the war enters its third winter.

In the northeastern city of Kharkiv, located less than 20 miles from the Russian border, at least three people were injured as residential buildings and civilian infrastructure were damaged in the attack. Regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov reported that at least seven missile strikes targeted the city.

Ukraine's energy minister, German Halushchenko, confirmed that Russia had attacked the energy sector again on a massive scale. As a result, Ukraine's energy operator had to impose emergency blackouts in several parts of the country.

Poland responded to a Russian missile threat in western Ukraine by scrambling fighter jets, according to the Polish Operational Command.

This latest attack comes after a deadly Russian strike on the city of Kryvyi Rih on Christmas Eve, where one person was killed and 17 others were injured when a Russian missile hit a residential building. Kryvyi Rih is the hometown of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Last Friday, another Russian missile attack on Ukraine's capital Kyiv resulted in at least one fatality and damage to several embassies. This attack followed Russian leader Vladimir Putin's challenge to Ukraine to a 'duel' during his end-of-year conference, prompting President Zelensky to refer to Putin as a 'dumbass.'
