Russell Wilson had one of the NFL’s best wide receiver groups on the Seahawks, led by D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. The Broncos lost tight end Noah Fant in the trade and they don’t have a star pass-catcher who’s on that Metcalf/Lockett level. However, they still do have some very-promising young talents at the offensive skill positions for Wilson to work with.
At running back, Javonte Williams has a lot of similarities with Seahawks legend Marshawn Lynch. Denver also has some up-and-comers at the wide receiver position. At the top of the list should be Jerry Jeudy, who was the team’s first-round pick in the 2020 NFL draft. Jeudy came into the league with a lot of hype, but so far his production has been underwhelming. In two seasons he’s totaled 90 catches, 1,323 yards and three touchdowns.
The big asterisk there is that Jeudy’s numbers have suffered from poor quarterback play – first with Drew Lock (now with Seattle) – and later with Teddy Bridgewater, who’s an elite backup but a mediocre starter.
That’s why no Denver player should be happier about the Wilson deal than Jeudy. Since the deal was made official Wilson has been busy building his chemistry with his new receivers. Late last night he posted this video of him throwing to Jeudy.

However well the Seahawks do over the next few years, Wilson will be casting a long shadow. If he goes on to win an MVP award or somehow manages to get Denver to the Super Bowl in a murderer’s row of an AFC conference it will reflect very poorly on Seattle’s head honchos: coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider. This trade with the Broncos is their most-risky personnel decision yet and if it goes wrong there’s a chance it could bring their reign to an end.
