Russell Wilson slammed as quarterback suffers embarrassment with $242m gamble backfiring

The Denver Broncos dropped to 3-9 on Sunday as Russell Wilson couldn't deliver a touchdown in their defeat to the Baltimore Ravens.

It's not often that teams lose in the NFL when only conceding 10 points, but the Broncos still managed to find away as a dull encounter ended in a stunning drive from the Ravens. Even without key players, the Ravens managed to seal victory with a late touchdown from Tyler Huntley - who filled in for Lamar Jackson at quarterback.

The Broncos handed former Seattle Seahawks star Wilson a huge five-year deal ahead of this season, but so far it's been nothing but a disaster. The Broncos have only scored three touchdowns since Halloween, and Undisputed host Skip Bayless has called him 'trash'.

"Russell Wilson's stinking it up worse than ever," Bayliss said as he questioned what the Broncos offence have been doing this season. And when looking at the statistics of other quarterbacks, he has a valid reason to question what is going on with the former Super Bowl champion.

Wilson has a worse quarterback rating that Zach Wilson, who has been scratched from the New York Jets matchday roster for the time being. Mike White has featured in his place, with the 23-year-old struggling.

The Broncos quarterback has also completed fewer passing yards than Jacoby Brissett, who has since been replaced by DeShaun Watson in the starting role for the Cleveland Browns. Brissett has thrown more than Wilson despite the Browns heavily focusing on the running game with Nick Chubb.

But perhaps one of the most embarrassing stats from Wilson's perspective is that he's thrown fewer passing touchdowns this season that Davis Mills. The Houston Texans quarterback has delivered more throws into the endzone this season, despite the organisation only winning one game.

Wilson is on a five-year $242million (£198m) deal with the Broncos, but they gave away a lot more than just finances in securing him. They also agreed to trade two first-round picks, two second-round picks, a fifth-round pick, quarterback Drew Lock, defensive lineman Shelby Harris, and tight end Noah Fant.

All the Seahawks had to give up was Wilson and a fourth-round pick, with the organisation saying the trade was 'unavoidable'. The Seahawks will be laughing now though, as they're 7-5 with Geno Smith starring in the quarterback role.

The 32-year-old produced another fine display against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, throwing for 367 yards and completing three touchdowns. The Seahawks are looking good in the NFC West, which is more than what can be said for the Broncos who are 3-9 and rooted to the bottom of the AFC West.
