The Denver Broncos have a bye this week after shocking the Kansas City Chiefs 24-9 on Sunday.
Denver is 3-5 following that win and well outside the playoff picture, but the upset victory over their division rival gives the Broncos positive momentum going into the break.
Denver quarterback Russell Wilson is confident the team will be refreshed and recharged for the second half of the season after the bye.
“I think that you always want to keep that momentum,” Wilson said when asked if he’d rather play the week following a big win instead of going into the bye. “We’re going to keep it through the bye week — going to stay focused on what we can do.
“It’s good to catch it right here for us because we feel like we’re climbing at the right time. I think to get rested up mentally, physically, emotionally [and] spiritually, [and] being ready to get going for this next stretch is going to be really key. We have a lot of good, great football teams ahead of us. We know how great we can be. We showed that today and we’ll be ready to go.”
The Broncos will have a big test immediately after the bye as they are set to go on the road to face the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football in Week 10. After that, the schedule gets a little easier, at least on paper.
Denver will have a lot of work to do to get back into the playoff hunt. The bye should help them regroup ahead of that daunting task.
