Rush for dream wedding as dad told he has 'days' to live

A man given a devastating cancer prognosis has married his partner as his 'dying wish'

Alan McKeown, from St Helens, was diagnosed with advanced oesophageal cancer in January, and given an initial 12-18 months to live. However, the dad-of-four, condition deteriorated and he was told he had just 'days to weeks' left.

After being given the devastating news, the 42-year-old said he wanted to marry his partner Cheryl. This was made possible by the Honey Rose Foundation, a St Helens based charity, and the pair were married in Prescot on May 12.

The community rallied around to make the day special for the couple. A close friend of Cheryl, Jo Dooley, said: "Alan was told he had 12-18 months to live, when he was told he had cancer in January it then got worse and as he was getting more poorly they told him he had days to weeks to live. Alan has four children and his dying wish was to marry his girl Cheryl.

"The Honey Rose Foundation is a charity that gets no funding, but helps people, trying to grant their dying wish, Lynn, the founder of the foundation was an absolute angel, she helped us so much and without them yesterday would not have been possible.

"We pulled a wedding together in six days, local businesses donated a local DJ and singer, both came and performed for free, the Prescot Cables gave us their function suite free. They dressed the room and even made a huge chicken curry all for free and went out and bought centre pieces for the special day."
