The Silver Jubilee bridge between Runcorn and Widnes will close for three months.
The plans began on February 6, with a view to install lighting onto the bridge, which can be lit up in different colours to mark celebrations and events. The works mean that vehicle access across the bridge will be completely restricted on weekdays until May 2023.
Access will be maintained for bus services, pedestrians and cyclists. Drivers wishing to cross the Silver Jubilee Bridge will be directed to a signed diversion route that uses the Mersey Gateway.

The closures are set to begin Monday February 27, and be in place from 8am to 5pm on weekdays. Cllr Stef Nelson, Halton Council’s portfolio holder for Environment & Urban Renewal, said: “Installing this fantastic modern lighting on the Silver Jubilee Bridge has been an aspiration of ours for several years.
“Both of our bridges are iconic structures which are architecturally impressive, and we feel this improved lighting will help boost the position of the SJB as a major landmark in the North West, and help contribute towards promoting a night time economy and culture in the borough.”
