Police have closed a murder investigation that was launched over “suspicious activity” reported on the Silver Jubilee Bridge in Runcorn last month.
Officers in Merseyside and Cheshire began a joint probe on Saturday, February 12, after a call from a member of the public who said they had seen a man park a car on the crossing at some point between 8.30pm and 9pm.
The caller said the man was “acting suspiciously”.

Merseyside Police subsequently attended properties in St Helens and arrested a 43-year-old man on suspicion of murder.
He was later released under investigation.
On Monday, February 14, officers arrested a 38-year-old man in Wilmslow, Cheshire, also on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident.
He was questioned and bailed with conditions.
Merseyside Police said the “extensive enquiries” that followed included underwater searches, CCTV and forensics.
A police dive team was seen scouring the Manchester Ship Canal when the ECHO attended the scene on February 14.
No body was found and the investigation has now closed.
Both men who were arrested have been released with no further action.
A force spokeswoman said: “The incident was reported to police in good faith and we would like to thank all members of the public who came forward with information to help us with our enquiries.
“We would encourage anyone who witnesses any suspicious activity to contact police via DM @MerPolCC on Twitter, message ‘ Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook or call 101. Always call 999 in an emergency.”
