The owner of a former care home in Gedling has installed extra security there after teenagers broke in and threw a tin of paint around. The Stoke House Care Home on Stoke Lane closed after a damning inspection report in 2020 found that it was "not safe" for residents.
Confusion then arose the year after when residents near the building had letters from a company saying that it wanted to base a a homeless shelter in the former care home building. Councillors confirmed at the time that no official plans were ever submitted.
Now, at least two break-ins have recently occurred in the former care home. The first happened last month and saw copper pipes being stolen, causing a small flood.

Councillor Sam Smith, a local Conservative representative in the area, also said that a group of teenagers entered the building on February 1 and threw paint around. It comes after rumours online that there were people squatting in the building, which Cllr Smith said are not true.
In an update on the situation, Cllr Smith said: "It's been a bit of a mess. The good news is that the owner of the site has now put up some new security fencing and sorted the leak out. The site is secure.
"I saw some rumours doing the rounds on social media to say there are some squatters in the building. I can assure you there is not - the site is secure, so good news really that that has all been dealt with."
