Rules on letting kids stay home alone during summer holidays

The are a number of rules in place in order to keep children safe when being left home alone during the summer holidays.

As soon as school's out many people with kids - especially those working away from home - are left with an extra plate to spin day to day. These parents face a new, seasonal dilemma- should they, or should they not, leave their kids home alone.

It isn't illegal to leave your kids at home alone, and there isn't a legal age they must reach before parents are allowed to leave the house without them. Yet, it is illegal to leave them at home alone if it puts them at risk. One leading children's charity has issued guidance on leaving your kids unsupervised through the summer.
