Rules of Ramadan - what Glaswegians can and cannot do during the holy month

The Islamic holy month of Ramadan is upon us and that means a month of daily fasting for millions of people across the world, including Glasgow's Muslim population.

As is usual for dates in the lunar calendar used across the Islamic world, Ramadan 2023 is once again being determined by the first crescent of the new moon.

It's the second year that Ramadan will return to being celebrated as it was before the pandemic. Mosques were all closed at the time of Ramadan in 2020, while in 2021 they were open again for communal worship but with limited numbers, advance booking, social distancing and other Covid guidelines, BirminghamLive reports.
