Rugby legend Lawrence Dallaglio takes drastic step amid bankruptcy woes

  • Former England rugby player Lawrence Dallaglio is auctioning off his 2003 Rugby World Cup winner's medal and other prized memorabilia amid ongoing financial difficulties and bankruptcy.
  • The World Cup winner's medal, awarded after England 's 20-17 extra-time victory against Australia, is expected to fetch between £50,000 and £80,000 at Budds auction house in Northamptonshire.
  • The entire collection, which includes a 2007 World Cup runner-up medal, Six Nations medals, international caps, and European Cup awards from his career with Wasps, could raise up to £180,000 in total.
  • Dallaglio was declared bankrupt last year after racking up hundreds of thousands of pounds in debt to HM Revenue and Customs and other creditors following his divorce from his estranged wife, Alice.
  • Opening up on The High Performance podcast, Dallaglio admitted that much of the situation was his own doing and expressed regret over how he handled his personal and financial challenges.
