Manchester United may have been handed their chance to push for Ruben Neves after the Wolves midfielder seemed to suggest he would leave Molineux this summer.
United have been linked with the Portuguese ace previously as Erik ten Hag looks to reinforce his midfield options. The Dutchman is keen on signing a ball-playing No.8, with previous interest in Frenkie de Jong highlighting the profile wanted at Old Trafford.
While reported interest in Neves has never been concrete, the Wolves star has been viewed as a strong option by United fans, providing Premier League experience and the versatility to play across all midfield roles including that of Casemiro, for which cover is needed.

Neves' future at Molineux has been the subject of speculation all season, with the 26-year-old entering the final 12 months of his contract and attracting interest across Europe. And with his latest admission after playing in Wolves' final home game of the season - a 1-1 draw with Everton - comments on his future suggest it will be his final home game for the club.
"I want to be here, but I never hide that I want to play Champions League football," the midfielder admitted. "It’s a hard decision. Me and my family love it here, but in football you have to go for your main goals.
"Nothing’s happened yet. If it was my last game here I really enjoyed it and I’m very thankful for the last six seasons."
Neves has been a Wolves player since joining them as a Championship side in 2017, signing from Porto for league record £15.8million. The midfielder has played 251 times for the Midlands club, leading them to promotion in his first season and being named club captain after Conor Coady left for Everton last summer.
