Reuben Neves has labelled Newcastle United a 'long ball' side and slammed the VAR decision not to show Fabian Schar a straight red card. The Magpies came from behind at Molineux to earn a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon, and preserve their unbeaten start to the season.
Neves fired the hosts in front with a trademark long-range strike before the break, and Bruno Lage's side looked to be on course for their first top-flight win in 11 attempts. Raul Jimenez applied the finishing touch to a counter attack in the closing stages, but the goal was disallowed after Pedro Neto was penalised for a shove on Ryan Fraser in the build-up.
Allan Saint-Maximin' stunning stoppage-time strike earned the visitors a point, while Elliot Anderson came close to a winning goal but saw his header bounce back off the crossbar. Newcastle struggled to fashion clearcut opportunities despite registering 64% possession, with Wolves largely playing on the counter.

Eddie Howe's side were left frustrated when VAR decided against awarding a penalty early on when Matheus Nunes clearly pulled Sean Longstaff's shirt in the box. Another check was carried out shortly after the restart, but Fabian Schar's late challenge on Neto was only punished with a yellow card.
Neves slammed the decision not to dismiss the Swiss international for the 'really dangerous' challenge which could have left the forward with a 'broken leg'. The playmaker also claimed Newcastle prefer to play with 'long balls', despite the visitors enjoying the lion's share of possession.
He told Sky Sports: "It's the Premier League, every game is like that. Their style of play is like that, just long balls and second balls. They're not a team that wants to have possession too much.
"We knew that and we prepared really well for that. Then at the end, it's details. Maybe a detail when [Pedro] Neto almost broke his leg and the ref didn't run to the screen.
"That's one detail, and another detail is we scored a second goal and the ref went to the screen. Another detail. A lot of meetings before the season starts, but then you see our player almost broke his leg on that tackle and the ref doesn't go to the screen.
"We ask why we had so many meetings, because everyone saw on the TV. I already watched the images, and it's unbelievable. He almost broke his leg, his foot is on the floor and the tackle is on his shin.
"Really, really dangerous, and they keep playing with 11 men until the end. That's one of the details that killed us at the end."
