RTE viewers laugh after spotting lipstick mark on Gearóid Hegarty's collar during MOTM interview

As tends to happen the night of an All-Ireland final, The Sunday Game split between its usual setting of its RTE studio and the celebrations at the team hotel.

And as usual, eagle-eyed viewers found the craic amongst the winning group as compelling as any selection of Team or Hurler of the Year.

One particular moment that caught people's attention was when everyone noticed that man of the match Gearóid Hegarty's shirt collar had a lipstick mark on it.

Viewers were quick to joke about the amusing detail amidst what was surely a well-deserved night of celebrations and cutting loose after months of relentless training and matches.

One commented: "Gearóid Hegarty accepting the All-Ireland man of the match award with a big lipstick mark on the shirt collar.

"Not a bad day's work."

While someone else said: "Gotta love the lipstick on Gearoid Hegarty's collar as he accepts the man of the match award. #sundaygame#Limerick"

And similarly, another supporter added: "The lipstick on Gearoid Hegarty’s collar, what a legend #Limerick#hurling#GearoidHegarty#GAA"

Even ex Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams noticed it as he tweeted: "Gearóid Hegarty got Man of the Match! Well deserved! He also has lipstick on his collar!!"

The 2020 Hurler of the Year was a worthy winner of the accolade as he was everywhere throughout the 70 minutes despite the punishing conditions.

And he added to his big-game player reputation by putting on a clinical scoring display. He wound up finishing with a haul of 1-5 with his goal after just four minutes an incredible effort where he rasped the ball past Eoin Murphy from an acute angle.

For all that though, the 27-year-old emphasized the team-first ethos that has been central to building such a platform for success under John Kiely and Paul Kinnerk.

He told Marty Morrissey: "I feel incredibly honoured to be up here and genuinely think I'm accepting on behalf of the other 35 men that are sitting here in this room tonight.

"Y'know there's 36 of us that kill each other on a Tuesday, Friday and Sunday for the whole year. For the last seven and a half months then so...I'm accepting on behalf of them to be honest with you.

"It's a team effort, I know it's a cliche but there's 36 of us in it and it has been a tough six and a half, seven and a half months, whatever it is. So it's an honour yeah."
