Annemarie said: "I was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in December 2021, during lockdown I noticed a pain in my shoulder that became a shooting pain."
She told Tommy that she never thought she would be diagnosed with the disease at such a young age: "You don't think women in their 40’s get Parkinson's so I kept thinking it was a trapped nerve. You think it’s something that happens when you’re older."
However, despite her condition she said she refuses to be a victim.
Annmarie added: "I'm really stubborn, I come from a long lineage of west of Ireland women.
"I am not a victim and that's why I draw attention to it and that's why I don't want people to feel like they have to hide."
She added: "I’m never going to outrun it. It’s always going to be the spectre that’s hanging over your life. I’m gonna fight it as much as I can - and all you can do is your best."
People watching the show took to social media to praise Annmarie for her positive outlook on life, calling her an "inspiration".
One person wrote on Twitter: "Such a positive, inspirational lady, loving the style as well."
A second added: "Annemarie O'Connor is some lady. Beautiful inspiring and so strong. She could easily choose to be a victim but inside is a warrior. What a legend #TommyTiernanShow"
A third commented: "A very interesting and informative conversation on Parkinsons on RTE's Tommy Tiernan Show tonight. Important to highlight these important things."
