RTE's Tommy Tiernan Show viewers were left in awe after a "raw and honest" interview with performance and resilience coach Jack Kavanagh.
Jack suffered a spinal injury in a water sports accident when he was just 20 years old and studying pharmaceutical science in college.
Speaking to Tommy, Jack described what it was like in the hospital where he spent nine months learning how to brush his teeth and breath.
Despite going through a life-changing accident, Jack was able to laugh with Tommy about his experience.
Talking about his hospital stay, Jack said: "The craic you have in there. Everyone's grappling with the same and different."
He added: "Awh, the craic is, in a really dark way, you know, you'd be in your element because you can say things that nobody else can say.
"You can get away with stuff that in any other circumstance wouldn't be tolerated and, you know so, dark humour becomes a big part of it, but there's days where you just need to pull the curtains and be with yourself, and they're the times when someone sticks their head in and says do you want a chat."
Jack moved viewers to tears as he spoke about his gratitude that his situation was not worse.
He said: "Everyones in different places as well… You've got the guy that has more function than you, that you're aspiring to be towards, and then you have huge gratitude that you say, I'm lucky that I'm not in that scenario as well… You get an appreciation.
"Like, I had fantastic family support, and I had a lot of friends in college in Dublin at the time and all of those kind of things, so that all goes a long way as well."
People took to Twitter to praise the young man's resilience and sense of humour.
One person wrote: "Remarkable interview with @JackKavanaghIRL on #TommyTiernanShow, what an inspiring man Jack is and how much he enjoyed the chat with Tommy, who treated Jack as an equal with such dignity, humour, and respect, just brilliant".
A second said: "Incredible TV, what an interview, two lads having the craic, incredible emotion and vulnerability, nothing taboo, for once worth paying the TV licence".
While a third commented: "I remember the time around @JackKavanaghIRL's accident so well, he was just the year behind me in pharmacy. It was unthinkable. Ten years on and he's just as impressive as he was then. The determination, the clarity of mind. Beautiful interview with".
