RTE Today Show star Sinead Kennedy admits she never thought she would take to motherhood as well as she has

TODAY Show host Sinead Kennedy has admitted she never thought she would relish in motherhood as well as she has.

The Winning Streak presenter welcomed her first daughter, Indie, with husband Conor Kirwan in April 2021.

Opening up about motherhood, the Cork star told us she genuinely never thought she would take to being a mother so well.

She said: “Life is great. Life has genuinely been better than it has ever been. I say that in all seriousness. It’s a lovely thing to be able to say as well.

"You never know how you’re going to fit into this mom role stuff. Some people find it really tough, or some people really enjoy it or some people have a mix of both. It depends on the day but I'm very lucky that I’m loving every minute of it.”

The Rte star said she never thought about motherhood when she was pregnant or what kind of a mother she might be.

“I didn’t even think about it much when I was pregnant and that sounds really kind of flippant. But I didn’t kind of wonder about it. I knew I always wanted children. I love kids but I was always one of those people that if you said oh hold my baby, I would say absolutely not, no I’m not holding your baby because I would be too terrified incase I drop the baby or not hold the baby right.

“Did I know how I was going to be? No. Am I surprised at how I am? No. If that makes sense. I didn’t know I would take to it the way I did but then in some ways I’m not surprised by it either.”

But she admitted she sometimes puts too much pressure on herself and she wishes she could take her own advice not to feel so under pressure to do things a certain way.

“I surprised myself that I am still breastfeeding. I wouldn’t have thought it would’ve continued this long but it is just the most glorious thing to do.

“She’s 15 months old now. She’s a little dreamboat and I am so lucky with her.”

But she said it is not easy being away from her husband for so long, but knows it won’t last forever.

Conor works in Brussels with the European Defence Agency, the couple have always been in a long distance relationship.

“He’s in Belgium. He’s been in Belgium pretty much since I found out I was pregnant. God love him, it’s not easy. It’s certainly easier to be away from me for long periods than to be away from her.

"We’re so used to it when it is just the two of us but obviously when you put a little human into the mix, she changes so much and so quickly at this, it is very hard for him to be away. It won’t last forever,” she added.
