RTE star Ryan Tubridy surprised by people in supermarket on day one of mask rule change

Ryan Tubridy walked into a supermarket without a mask on day one of the rule changes, but said he quickly changed his mind.

The RTE host decided not to wear a face covering when he popped in to the shops on Monday.

However, the Late Late host soon changed his mind and decided to put his mask on.

Speaking on his morning radio show, the RTE host said: "I walked into the shop with my mask in my pocket...I was in two minds, then I saw every single person was wearing a mask, I don't want to be that weird one, freaking people out."

He added: "If people aren't quite ready for it yet then I'll put this mask on until it becomes apparent everyone wants their mask off."

The star was one of many people who headed shopping on Monday wondering whether or not they should still wear the mask.

But one place you still have to wear masks, despite popular belief, is in Pharmacies.

The Irish Pharmacy Union said on Monday: "Today, the mandatory requirement to wear masks in retail settings has been removed. As pharmacies are considered healthcare settings, the current public health advice is that masks should continue to be worn there."

In a tweet retweeted by Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan and Deputy CMO Dr Ronan Glynn, the Department of Health said that their public health advice has changed.

“You should consider wearing a mask in crowded indoor settings, particularly on public transport,” the post on Twitter said.

“Continue to practise good hand and respiratory hygiene by washing and sanitising your hands regularly, and coughing/sneezing into your elbow.

“Anyone with symptoms of Covid-19 should self-isolate immediately.”
