RTE star Daithi O'Se saves €450 on energy bill with handy tip

Daithi O'Se praised journalist and broadcaster Conor Pope for some handy advice that saved him a few hundred euro on his energy bill.

Daithi said he owes the Irish Times writer a pint after he appeared on the Late Late Show on Friday night with expert tips on how to save money on your bills. Pope said households could save up to €1,000 every year just by switching energy provider.

Pope addressed the RTE studio audience and ask them to raise their hands if they're getting energy from the same supplies as last year. About 60% of the audience raised their hand.

He then went on to say: “Everybody that put up their hand is wasting money. You’re giving energy companies money for absolutely nothing. 500,000 households have not switched, every single one of those households is wasting money. I’m not talking 50 quid, or 70 quid - they’re all wasting up to €1,000 a year.

“Because the way the business works is when you move from company A to company B, they give you a discount of up to 40% for the first 12 months. But if you don’t move after the 12 months, you go back up to paying the standard rate which is 40% higher.

“It’s not tricky to switch electricity or gas.”

Daithi put Pope's advice to the test and Pope was proven right. The Kerry man shared his bill after switching which says he will save €453.98 per year.

The TV host said: "Thanks @Conorpope watched you on @RTELateLateShow on Friday took your advice.. ill stand you a pint next time I see you."
