RTE star Blathnaid Treacy says she has no plans to host Dancing With The Stars

TV star Blathnaid Treacy has ruled herself out of being the next host of Dancing With The Stars.

She hosted the spin-off show Can’t Stop Dancing until it was axed in 2019. And as producers of the glitzy RTE One show look to replace Nicky Byrne who stepped down from the show due to Westlife commitments, Blathnaid said she will not be taking his spot beside Jennifer Zamparelli.

She said: “So with Dancing With The Stars, I’m not going to be doing it. I worked on the show before and I loved working on the show before and it was amazing.

“I’m as excited as everybody else as to who is going to be covering. Like everyone we have heard names splashed about, I’ve heard a few names but I have no idea who they are going to actually choose. Whoever gets to work on the show, they’re going to have a ball.

“It is just the most beautiful production to work on and the whole team are just amazing. The production on it is insane so I can’t wait to find out who it is going to be.”

Opening up about recently bowing out from Ultimate Hell Week, Blathnaid said she has no regrets taking part in the gruelling series. She added: “I watched the show so I had a little bit of an insight about what to expect but to be honest, there is nothing you can do to prepare you
for it.

“It was daunting on the first day being surrounded by MMA fighters, boxers, rugby players, GAA footballers and hurlers and then me.

“It was definitely a team effort. I couldn’t have done without the help of my fellow recruits. I watched last Wednesday’s episode and that was the day after I dropped out. There was no way I would’ve been able for it. They do two or three challenges a day.

“At the point when I dropped out, I was just done. I wasn’t physically as strong obviously as the others but I’m definitely proud of how far I got to.

“It’s also good to know your limits, which is a good rule for life in general. We all put so much pressure on ourselves, so it is a good life lesson to say, ‘No, I’m done now’.

“I learned I am much stronger than I thought. I learned I am a team player, that I absolutely look out for other people and I get on really well with people.”

Blathnaid was speaking at the launch of Irish Water and Clean Coasts campaign, which are urging the public to continue to ‘Think Before You Flush’ as alarmingly a recent survey has revealed that almost a million adults living in Ireland continue to regularly flush wipes and other sanitary items down the toilet. Alarmingly, those aged under 35 are twice as likely to dispose of ‘flushable’ wipes down the toilet, compared to those aged over 35.

She said: “I am delighted to support the ‘Think Before You Flush’ campaign. For me, it is important that we all play a positive role when it comes protecting the environment.

“Collectively, small changes can have a huge impact so I would encourage everyone to consider their flushing habits. It is simple really, just ‘Think Before You Flush’.”
