RTE's Ryan Tubridy in disbelief as Westlife's Mark Feehily opens up on being called fat and picture that 'destroyed' him

Westlife star Mark Feehily has opened up on the horrible comments that were made to him throughout his career about his weight.

The Sligo man is one quarter of one of Ireland's biggest ever pop bands but says despite all the success, it wasn't all smooth sailing.

Feehily, now a dad-of-one, told RTE's Ryan Tubridy how his weight always fluctuated, but people in the music industry weren't afraid to remind him.

He said: "Look, it's the music industry and back then, people back then would have no problem telling you you're fat and to lose weight.

"Just before you went on camera."

Tubs replied "really? That was said to you?"

Mark added: "I'm kind of comfortable enough in my own skin, it's only when others tell me.

"Now instead of someone from a music record label it's Twitter or Instagram."

The singer also opened up on when he was fat shamed in a magazine, as they zoomed in on a picture of his belly while he was playing tennis, saying it "destroyed" him.

He told RTE's Ryan Tubridy that he was always aware of his weight, even before his fame: "I never liked the camera being on me.....I was just conscious of my weight, my weight always fluctuated, it's weird because when I was young I never realised I was, I fluctuated in and out of a little overweight, not really overweight, I always fluctuated in and out of it.

"I was in an all boys school and you're very quickly reminded, nicknames come out of any tiny thing that's different about you. So there were a few nicknames in school but it wasn't that bad.

"Before you go on TV shows you know theres like 50 million people watching this one and you're like 'oh my god', all I can describe it as, say if the camera is here, the weight on my face, it just wasn't right it felt, it was an inbuilt thing that didn't feel naturally to me at all."
