RTE's Ryan Tubridy helps injured girl during Climb with Charlie trek as fundraising total goes past €2.2m

Ryan Tubridy took time out of his fundraising climb of Croagh Patrick to help an injured girl at the weekend.

The paths up and down the 2,507 ft mountain can be extremely dangerous at times, with your footing never really guaranteed to be steady at any time.

And a combination of mixed weather conditions and the sheer amount of people climbing the Reek on Saturday caused one girl to lose her footing.

Amy Cody took a tumble while on Croagh Patrick

But Tubridy and a couple of his crew were nearby, and came to Amy's aid with supplies.

"Amy Cody from Wicklow has injured herself! The prognosis is an injured ankle, but we're gonna fix that here.

He then asked her "How are you feeling Amy?" receiving a "Not good" in reply.

Ryan continued: "Amy, is this your idea of an absolute nightmare?" only for Amy to respond "I'm absolutely fangirling here".

The RTE broadcaster had joined his former colleague Charlie Bird, who climbed the Co Mayo mountain as part of his bid to raise money for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and Pieta.

He had planned to light five candles on the summit - one for everyone who has a terminal illness; one for people who are in a dark place and climbing their own mountain every day; one for the people of Ukraine; one for Covid frontline workers and one for Limerick woman Vicky Phelan, who has cervical cancer.
