RTE pundit Richie Sadlier has hilarious response to viewer's misplaced angry criticism

Richie Sadlier had an amusing response to an angry tweet that was mistakenly aimed at him.

The viewer, Stevie, had tweeted their annoyance at 'Richie' making an error when referring to how long was left in extra-time of Real Madrid's pulsating Champions League clash with Chelsea.

Stevie, who has since deleted his account, said: "@RichieSadlier there's 120 minutes with extra-time, you haven't a clue.

"12/13 minutes left after 119 minutes gone - worst pundit."

Unfortunately for Stevie, it was actually Kenny Cunningham who was on co-commentary duty.

Sadlier pointed this out to him in hilarious fashion as he replied: "Hi Stevie. Grateful for the feedback, but I’ve been at home in bed all evening."

In fairness to Cunningham, who did make the slight error in the midst of what was a hectic second leg, both he and primary commentator Des Curran added greatly to what was a highly enjoyable night's entertainment for anyone who caught The Blues' 3-2 win which ultimately saw Los Blancos advance 5-4 on aggregate.

At one point he joked sub Christian Pulisic 'is able to miss them on the right foot as well as the left' after the American missed a golden opportunity which was also a mirror image of an earlier chance which he'd also hooked over.

The abiding highlight on the night though came from Croatian playmaker Luka Modric.

The 36-year-old pulled off one of the most outrageous outside of the boot passes you'll ever see to set up Rodrygo's goal which turned the tide back in the home side's favour having looked set to crumble to an embarrassing exit.

Afterwards, the 2018 Ballon d'Or winner reflected on how they once again snatched victory from the jaws of defeat having similarly looked set to bomb out in the last round against PSG.

He told BT Sport: "It is unbelievable. We were dead until the goal we scored. Chelsea scored three good goals. I cannot say we played a bad game, they used their chances well.

"We didn’t give up and our fans kept supporting us. That gave us a boost to believe that we could turn it around. In this competition, experience helps.”

Modric was full of praise for Tuchel’s side however, labelling them as one of the trickiest opponents in European football.

“For me Chelsea are the most difficult to play against,” the veteran midfielder added. “Tough, physical and compact. But we showed great character and desire. It is a defeat that feels very sweet!”
