RTE Prime Time to host major debate as Housing Minister and Sinn Fein spokesman to butt heads

Prime Time has announced that it will wrap up it's week-long focus on housing with a hotly-anticipated debate between the Minister for Housing Darragh O'Brien and Sinn Féin's spokesperson on housing Eoin Ó Broin.

Viewers who tuned in to Tuesday's night's episode of Prime Time were left disgusted after 'outrageous' and 'patronising' comments on the housing crisis by Conor Skehan.

Skehan, a former chairman of the housing agency, was blasted for suggesting that people who wanted a house should simply look at moving away from Dublin (despite the fact that house prices have risen nationally.)

However, the show finished with the announcement of the debate between Minister O'Brien and Ó Broin.

On Thursday, a Prime Time spokesperson said the show will look at "solutions" to the crisis.

They said: "With the government's Housing for All strategy put under the spotlight, Prime Time asks will it produce the increase in accommodation that is needed and will younger buyers, in particular, have anything to purchase?

"Sinn Féin's housing proposals call for a huge increase in local authority building and for rent caps and curbs. Will this produce more housing supply or just gum up the system in government-induced lethargy?

"RTÉ Prime Time will debate these issues with the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage Darragh O'Brien and Eoin Ó'Broin, Sinn Féin’s spokesperson on housing on Thursday."

Set the watches for 9.35pm on Thursday evening if you want to tune in.

Viewers were quick to voice their anticipation for Thursday night, with one commenting: "Oh this could be fun, but also very vexing."

Another said: "This is definitely one to watch."

"Christ Tis like Wrestlemania early" laughed a third.
