Charlie Bird was left 'touched' after three children sent him their pocket money as part of the fundraising drive ahead of Climb with Charlie up Croagh Patrick.
The retired RTE reporter is preparing to take on the Mayo mountain in April to raise vital funds for the Irish Motor Neurone's Association and Pieta House.
Charlie, who has been honest and open in his battle with motor neurone's disease since being diagnosed towards the end of last year, has admitted that he still struggles on some days.
But Sunday saw a "tough day" be brightened up by a remarkable gesture from three young Irish children.
Taking to his Twitter account, Charlie explained: "What can I say..Hannah age 6, Aoibheann Age 8 and Seamus aged 10. This kind and amazing gesture has made me the happiest person you can imagine. You have made a tough day into one with sunshine and love. You have really extended the hand of friendship. Tiger says thanks too."
All three children had sent Charlie a fiver out of their pocket/Christmas money for the cause.
One wrote: "To Charlie, this is for your climb at Crow Patrick (sic). I really hope you get a medicine to cure your illness. I hope your climb goes well, get well soon"
Charlie recently revealed how he recognised his symptoms of Motor Neurone's disease from a past visit to his late friend in RTE, Colm Murray.
Charlie received his diagnosis in November after noticing that he was having issues with his voice.
Since that day, he has been very public with his battle, inspiring thousands in doing so.
