RTE Late Late viewers praise brave Alanna Quinn Idris for sharing attack story

Brave Alanna Quinn Idris shared the story of a brutal attack that left her blind in one eye on the Late Late Show.

The 18-year-old suffered a ruptured eyeball, broken cheekbone and a shattered tooth in the attack on December 30, 2021, in Ballyfermot, Dublin. Last month, Darragh Lyons, 19, of Weir View, Chapelizod, Dublin 20, was sentenced to four and a half years for the “savage attack”.

She told host Ryan Tubridy about the moments after the attack. She said: "I remember it in bits and pieces. I was kind of in and out.

"I remember at one point someone was saying to try and keep me awake. I just remember throwing up everywhere, flashing lights all around me from the fire brigade and loads of people all around me that I didn't know.

"People had just hopped out of their cars and stuff on the street and come over to me. I just remember my friend being beside me and trying to see if I was okay. Seeing him covered in blood from himself.

"I could feel this pressure on the right side of my face and feeling just completely out of it. I was just really confused.

Viewers praised the brave teenager for speaking up and audience members even had tears in their eyes. One viewer wrote: "I love this girl. Confident and beautiful. I hope she has the very best life."

Another said: "Alanna , a fabulous young woman .. I hope this world will be kind to her."

A third said: "Alanna is a beautiful, strong woman. I'm in awe of her, smiling & positive telling her story."

A fourth wrote: "Alanna Quinn. What a joy. Cannot believe what happened to her."

A fifth said: "Alanna Quinn what a powerful interview from a brave young woman sharing how she’s tried her best to survive such a trauma."

She previously said she is considering a career in modelling. She said: “I’m very self conscious and I can barely stand being in public knowing what my face looks like. It makes me very self-conscious but if and when I overcome that I would love to give modelling a go.

“I just need to build up my confidence.” Alanna will undergo another surgery this month in a bid to reconstruct part of her eye socket.
