RTE star Kathryn Thomas has opened up about her new “lifesaving” medical documentary which blew her mind.
The radio and TV host is set to front a new show, which airs later this year. The series follows the lives of people who are in need of life saving surgeries.
The Carlow native told us: “I’m working on a new TV show. It’s about people going through surgeries at various stages of their life so I’ve been in pretty much solidly, I’m probably one of the most squeamish people that you know but I’ve been in theatres and surgeries. It’s been an incredibly eye-opening experience. That’ll come to light in October.

“It’s all different surgery, life saving surgeries, life threatening surgery.
“I didn’t pitch it but as soon as I heard it, I thought wow. I’m quite nerdy like that. Where medical science is going is fascinating to me and the techniques and the technologies that they are using now is mind blowing. To see these guys in action even for ten weeks, and all the VR technology so you’re able to see everything in 4D.”
She said the new show still sees her on a journey like in Operation Transformation.
“It’s still being with people on a journey and getting them from A to B. I really enjoyed it.”
Kathryn also told how she believes the weight loss show will return to our screens again in January.
“As far as I know it is. We haven’t been told otherwise,” she said at the Platinum VIP Style Awards.
She opened up about welcoming Patrick Kielty into the RTE family this September as new host of the Late Late Show, describing the comic as “funny as hell”
“I can just say that I think Patrick is a great choice. He is such an accomplished broadcaster. He is funny as hell, he’s politically minded and he will do an amazing job,” she added.
